Jelly Worms

These ooey gooey jelly worms have been all over the internet and we just had to give it a go.

So, we made up some strawberry jelly, with some extra gelatin to be sure.
We place a handful of straw into a cup, secured with a rubber band.  We filled the cup with jelly and allowed it to set.

Once set we took the clump of straws out.  A bit messy but found if you rotate and pull up, it works.  Then taking one straw at a time, we rolled the jelly out with a rolling pin and .......

....we got jelly worms!

Of course the boys in attendance just loved it.  They looked good and tasted great!

Melted Crayon art

Today's lesson was melting crayons onto a canvas.

Firstly we picked a design and cut out our silhouette or shape.
Then we coloured in the picture with a permanent marker or cut out the shape we wanted to keep crayon free.
Then we hot glued the crayons onto the top of the canvas.

Let the fun begin.  Our next step was to use the hair dryer and melt the crayons onto the canvas.  This was great fun and it wasn't long before the brothers of the crafty girls, who are usually playing outside, were in amongst it wanting to make their own.

Father's Day

Lesson #4

Using printables found on the internet (I think it was from the tipjunkie), we created a special Father's Day present.  We found small/medium sized empty chocolate boxes from a local wholesale store, which we used to pack all our goodies and then decorated the box with our own super hero drawings.

The Superhero Box included:

Hero Juice - Gingerbeer
Energy Chips
Breath mints
Secret Identity Bar - used Furry Friend chocolate re-wrapped in foil
Jerky - Beef jerky
X-ray Vision Drops - Pistachio Nuts
Hero Nosh - Chocolate Bullets
Hero Vitamin Pellets - M&M's

Self Portraits

Lesson #3
This lesson we focused on creating a cover page for the art books.

Here's how they did it..........

1.  We took photos of each crafty girl, putting their hands in the photo to add extra detail.

2.  The photos were then printed in black and white, A4 size.  They were each given a piece of greaseproof paper which they layed on top of their printed photo and traced the main lines.

3.  Then using felt pens, they coloured in their image.

4.  Lastly they added backgrounds and titles for their page.

Foil Art

Glue and foil were the main components of today's lesson.

Step 1.  Crafty Girl's had to choose or design their own artpiece and draw onto a piece of card.

Step 2.  They then had to go over the art outline with PVA (wood glue) or with a hot glue gun.  Which we then allowed to dry fully.

Step 3.  Go over artwork with a glue stick.  Press a sheet of alfoil onto the image, folding the excess behind the board.

Step 4. Rub the alfoil with thumb to ensure it presses into all the grooves.

Step 5. Colour the artwork with either shoe polish or Pens.

Step 6.  Felt pens may not work. Sharpie or Bic Mark it pens worked the

best for us. Some of the girls rubbed the pen off with tissue before it
fully dried to lighten the colour slightly.

Beaded Bookmarks

It might be the school holidays but art class continues.  With everyone so keen, we held a holiday art class.  Starting at Danish Flower Art where everyone selected their charms and beads.  We then headed to Crafty Girl #1's home for food and bookmark creating.  An old crafty girl even managed to join us, Delilah's sister.

Here are the beautiful results of everyone's hard work.
